Three Do-It-Yourself Sore Throat Remedies

No one likes getting a sore throat; they can take a while to go away, and every day in the meantime is a day that you are suffering. And since many sore throats are caused by colds, which are bacterial, you can't even take antibiotics to make them go away faster (since antibiotics only work on viruses).

Fortunately, there are some things you can try that may lessen your suffering from your pain in the meantime:

Tea - Tea has long been known as having medicinal value, lifting the mood, and helping the immune system. There are literally hundreds of types of tea available, and now there are even some that are specifically designed to help a sore throat. Have a look at your local super market or health food store and see what they have or recommend.

Gargling saltwater - While it might not taste good, gargling salt water has been used by people with scratchy throats for decades. The gargling action can help with the pain, and the salt in the water may help reduce the inflammation in the throat through osmosis.

Ice Cream - Now to be honest, ice cream isn't technically medicine, but it can help relieve the swollen, burning feeling that you may have in your throat. Ice cream's cold temperature helps numb the pain, and it tastes good, too. You'll want to make sure to get a kind that doesn't have any hard pieces of cookie or anything in it, however, as crunchy food can irritate your throat.

Hopefully one or more of these techniques may help you find some relief in the meantime until your body finally fights off the sickness on its own.
